Getting a book published is a
formidable task. Marketing that same book on
the internet can be even tougher. What mindset does the
writer need to be successful at internet
marketing?

Writing for Writers -
Internet Marketing Mindset
You've written the next great
international bestseller and have gotten it published. You think,
'My book is finally published. I can sit back, relax, and watch the
royalties roll in.'
WRONG!
First, I want to congratulate any
writers that have gotten a book published. That in itself is an
accomplishment. But...many writers are under the assumption that
their publisher will spend thousands of dollars marketing their
work. Nothing could be further from the truth.
Getting your published book marketed
is a formidable task. Most of the marketing must be done by the
writer.
Most of us go into the writing arena
thinking that the world needs what we have to say. That may be true,
but actually no one cares what I have to say. It is up to me to
create the need in my readers. Every writer needs to create a
following for his work.
I have some good news and some bad
news.
The bad news is that there are
millions of writers vying for attention. That means a lot of
competition. (Which is not necessarily a bad thing.)
The good news is that the internet
exposes every author to billions of people world wide. We have an
opportunity that no other generation has seen.
The internet is the cheapest way to
start a business for authors or anyone else for that matter. (But be
careful, there are crooks out there.)
Like every other business, it takes
time to learn the ins and outs of the medium.
It is common in business to expect to
lose money the first three to five years. I believe this also
applies to online businesses...if a person works hard and applies
knowledge that he's learned. It will take longer if he doesn't.
Knowledge is always very expensive in time or money.
Many will get discouraged and quit.
Many will get bitter and combative. Others will continue to learn
and grow. (If this were easy everyone would do it.)
Don't despair. Every writer that wants
to be successful needs to have the mindset of a marathon runner. The
race is long, but every journey begins with a simple step. If you
start the journey and stay focused on your goal the chances of
success are much greater.
